Using other than the recommended fuse ratings at the battery and the amplifier may cause damage to the amplifier and will void your warranty. ·Do not run wiring outside or underneath your car. All cables should be run underneath carpets and trim panels. ·To minimise interference, run the power cables along the opposite side of the car to the audio cables. ·Wherever wires pass through metal, or plastic, rubber grommets must be used to prevent the insulation wearing through and a short occurring. ·It is best to test the system before the amplifier is mounted and the interior trim re-assembled. ·The amplifier operates with any vehicle using a 12 volt negative ground system. If you are not sure of the type of electrical system in your car, consult an authorised dealer or qualified mechanic. ·NEVER ground the speaker wires and NEVER allow the speaker cables to come into contact with each other. Speaker wire should be 18 gauge or larger. ·Do not listen to high volumes for extended periods of time or hearing damage may occur. Continuous exposure to sound pressure levels over 100dB may cause permanent hearing loss. High powered autosound systems may produce sound pressure levels well over 130dB. NW280SP User Guide NW280SP User Guide NW280SP User Guide NW280SP User System Wiring Before making any connections, disconnect the negative terminal from the battery. Route the power cable from the battery to where the amplifier will be positioned using rubber grommets where it passes through any panels or trim. The fuse holder should be within 0.5 metres of the battery (however do not install the fuse at this time) and all cable should be secured safely or hidden beneath trim panels etc. It is also a good idea to route the remote switch on cable from the head unit/stereo at this point. Connect the power cable to the positive (B+) terminal of the amplifier and the remote switch on lead to the `REM' terminal. Choose a suitable ground point, it should be free from paint, grease and dirt and provide a secure attachment to the body of the vehicle. Connect the ground cable to the `GND' terminal on the amplifier and route the cable to the earth point. This distance should be as short as possible (ideally no longer than 0.5 metres). Ensure a good connection with the bare metal of the car body and secure the cable. All signal cables from the head unit/stereo should be routed down the opposite side of the vehicle to avoid interference. Ensure all phono plugs are securely attached and pushed fully into their sockets. Failure to correctly connect the speakers will cause the cones to move out of phase and cancel out the bass sounds. NW280SP User Guide NW280SP User Guide NW280SP User Guide NW280SP User System Set-up ·Set the crossover (`X-OVER') to the `HPF' position when the amplifier is being used to drive tweeter/midrange speakers. All frequencies below the selected crossover point will be attenuated. This point can be adjusted from the dial on top of the amplifier. ·Set the crossover (`X-OVER') to the `LPF' position when the amplifier is being used to drive a subwoofer. All frequencies above the selected crossover point will be attenuated. This point can be adjusted from the dial on top of the amplifier. ·Set the crossover (`X-OVER') to the `FULL' position when the amplifier is being used to drive full range speakers. The full frequency bandwidth will be output to the speakers without high or low frequency attenuation. ·To set the `GAIN' to the correct level, start by adjusting the dial on top of the amplifier to `MIN'. Using a CD/Tape you are very familiar with, turn the volume on the head unit/stereo up to about three quarters. Slowly turn the `GAIN' dial up towards `MAX' using a flat head screw driver until the sound starts to distort. At this point turn the `GAIN' dial back slightly until no distortion is heard, this is now the maximum volume for the head unit and the `GAIN' is correctly set. ·The `BASS' switch can be used to increase/decrease the low-end frequency response of the amplifier. This is only effective when the `X-OVER' is set at `FULL' or `LPF'. r Guide Symptom Probable Cause Solution No Audio Blown/Missing Fuse Power cables not connected Blown/disconnected speakers See `GAIN' adjustment procedure.
